Western Mass Runners' Hall of Fame
Lavender Towse Annual High School Scholarship
The Western Mass Runners' Hall of Fame seeks to recognize those individuals and teams that have made significant contributions to the sport of running and the running community in Western Massachusetts. As part of our contribution to the future running community, the Hall of Fame awards two $1000 scholarships to Western Mass high school seniors who demonstrate a passion for running and are outstanding local citizens. These scholarships are funded in memory of Lavender Towse, who brought passion and joy to the high school running community and as of 2024 they are awarded annually each spring.
Madeline Grace Brown - Ludlow
Madeline has been a 3-season runner for Ludlow High School competing in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track while also being a member of the National Honor Society. In Cross Country, she was a team Captain her Senior season and she was named a league all-star and 2nd team All Western Mass her Junior and Senior seasons. Within her teams she has been given numerous awards over the years including Most Improved, Left an Imprint, Had an Impact, and MVP.
Madeline credits her time involved in running for establishing discipline in her life and increasing her self-confidence while also teaching her how to work with and motivate others.
Lex Gregory Singh - Pioneer Valley Regional
Lex attends Pioneer Valley Regional and upon graduation plans to attend either UVM or UNE to pursue a BS degree in environmental science.
He has participated in every running season since 7th grade with either his school or the local running club. He is most proud of being picked to be a captain for X-Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track in their senior year, having recruited a half-dozen other runners into the sport, and sticking with running through injury, loss, illness, and all the responsibilities between home and school life.
Lex credits the sport of running with shaping him into the person he is today and he believes nothing will keep him from continuing to run in the future.
